On my first trip to Havana, I became obsessed with a great Cuban mojito. Walking the streets of my parents' homeland gave me perspective on my life and where I come from. Once I tasted an authentic mojito in old Havana my life has never been the same. Something about listening to live Cuban music and having a mojito that soothes the soul. I’ve been dreaming about the mojitos of my Cuban heritage ever since.
What if I added this yummy beverage to my mojito recipe? It was a hot summer day so I was inspired to elevate my ritual.
Here’s what you need:
1 bottle of mike’s Hard Lemonade
2 teaspoons of white sugar
7-8 fresh mint leaves and one mint sprig for garnish
3 ounces of white rum
Juice from one lime
Ice cubes
Here’s what you do:
Combine the sugar, mint and lime juice in a highball glass and muddle together. You can also add one of the lime wedges there before you muddle if you want a little kick.
Add the rum and then shake in a cocktail shaker until you can’t shake no more.
Pour in your highball glass over ice, top off with your Mike’s Hard Lemonade and add a mint sprig for garnish.
Now that you have your new Cuban “American” mojito in hand you can quench your thirst on a hot summer day. I will be reliving my memories from my trip to Cuba and making new memories with this refreshing drink.
